Preserving Our Home – Providing for Our Community!

The Project

To continue serving as a safe, welcoming resource for women and the broader community, the Valparaiso Woman’s Association must preserve and maintain its historic home. In 2022, the organization completed a comprehensive historic assessment that identified critical structural and preservation needs necessary to protect the building for future generations.

As one of the few remaining structures built by Charles Lembke, this landmark represents an important piece of Valparaiso’s architectural and cultural history. Guided by the findings of the assessment, the Association is embarking on a capital campaign to fund major preservation projects, including a much-needed roof replacement.

Preserving this historic home is about more than protecting a building—it is about ensuring that community organizations, neighborhood initiatives, and future generations continue to have access to a safe and vibrant gathering place. With ongoing investment and community support, this "lovely lady" will remain a cherished part of Valparaiso’s history and future.

Join us in hearing from Daniela Mancusi-Shreve of The Valparaiso Adult Learning Center! Daniela Mancusi-Shreve has 20+ years of experience in Adult Education and Literacy.  She passionately amplifies the voices of adult learners and fellow educators through advocacy at local, state, and national levels.  Last fall, Daniela presented a national webinar titled "Just What The Doctor Ordered - Improving Health Literacy Among Adult Learners."  Additionally, Daniela is a published author.  The Coalition on Adult Basic Education (COABE) Spring 2024 Journal included a piece by Daniela featuring two adult learners from Valparaiso with distinctly different backgrounds.  One of those students, Mallory, was awarded the Indiana Outstanding Adult Learner of the Year (2022) and National COABE Adult Learner of the Year (2023).   The beach, Phillies baseball, gardening, book clubs, and quality time with family and friends are some of Daniela's favorite activities. The Valparaiso Adult Learning Center inside Trinity Lutheran Church serves adults ages 16 and up with High School Equivalency (GED) preparation, English as a Second Language instruction, and Career & College readiness. After our member meeting, consider joining some members downtown for the 7:00 pm concert; Summer Concert Series by Valparaiso Events
